Instead he found Fang Bai and the truth of what Lan Ao had done. The two men rushed to the assembly but arrived too late. When the warlord's forces buried the gathering in an explosion, Palm Strike Master used the last of his strength to push the Golden Peach forward. He died as the hero his daughter remembered, not the broken man he had become.
The painter who came all the way to see his friend, only to be turned away by a cold letter, was the last one standing. The man nobody noticed. The final runner in a relay that spanned two centuries.
