Biography

The player character - infant rescued by Uncle Jiang and raised by Aunt Han at Blissful Retreat. After Heaven's Pier falls, the Young Master becomes a wandering xiake whose true origin remains unknown.

The Young Master is the player's avatar - an infant rescued by Uncle Jiang on a snowy night and raised in Heaven's Pier village under the roof of Blissful Retreat, the inn run by Aunt Han. He has no surviving memory of his birth parents and no firsthand knowledge of how Jiang Yan came to find him; the entire history before the opening cinematic is a sealed door he spends the rest of the game pushing against. Heaven's Pier raises him as a son of the village, not as the heir to any sect or noble line.His childhood ends abruptly when Aureate Pavilion's enforcer Qianye descends on Heaven's Pier in search of Aunt Han and the artifacts she once stole from the Pavilion. The raid burns the inn, scatters the villagers, and forces the Young Master into the road as a wandering xiake. From that point his life becomes a pursuit on two axes - outrunning Aureate Pavilion's continuing hunt for him and his guardians, and chasing every fragment of information that might explain who Jiang Yan really was and why he disappeared.Chapter 2 takes him east to Kaifeng, where the Universal Furnace arc draws him into a city-scale economic crisis: the imperial capital's coin shortage, the unveiling of a Treasure Basin said to make gold, and the theft of that vessel by the Nine Mortal Ways out of the Ghost Markets. He stands as an unaffiliated outsider in a court of merchant lords and undercover heroes, and his role is the one role no faction can refuse - the wanderer with nothing to lose.Chapter 3 sends him along the Hexi corridor - Jade Gate Pass, Liangzhou, on toward Chang'an - where the player's role becomes that of witness and finisher of other people's stories: Lian Daozi's spiritual recovery, Cao Jing Guanyin's flight from an arranged marriage, the unnamed soldier remembered only as Burlap Sack. By the end of v1.6 content, the Young Master remains origin-unknown, faction-unbound, and still actively pursued by what is left of Aureate Pavilion.

Appearance

Customisable - the Young Master takes whatever face the player gives them. In cutscenes the default presentation reads as a young xiake in travelling robes, lightly armoured, weapon-of-choice on the hip. The constant across all customisation is the wandering-swordsman silhouette: loose travelling clothes, no sect colours, no family crest.

Personality

The Young Master is defined less by a fixed disposition and more by what they refuse to abandon - Aunt Han's people, Jiang Yan's memory, and any obvious injustice that walks into their line of sight. The framing of the writing leans into a steady, dutiful temperament: a wanderer who keeps stopping for other people's troubles even when their own thread is unresolved. Player choices flex this in places (mercy or violence, accept or refuse coin), but the through-line is a xiake's stubbornness - once a promise is made, it gets kept.

Ch.1 turns the Young Master from a sheltered village youth into a man (or woman) with a price on their head. The fall of Heaven's Pier strips away every relationship that anchored their identity, and the chapter ends with Qianye broken at Moonveil Mountain but Aunt Han still missing and Uncle Jiang still unaccounted for.Ch.2 widens their scope from personal vendetta to civic stakes. Allying with Big Zhao, Master Pu and ultimately the Ember of East, they help untangle the Treasure Basin theft and the Heroes Assembly's hidden politics. Crucially, this arc is where the Young Master learns to operate inside a city rather than against one - a skill the later Chang'an content leans on.Ch.3 is the contemplative chapter - the Young Master's arc here is structural rather than dramatic. They are the throughline that lets Lian Daozi's, Cao Jing Guanyin's, and the dead Burlap Sack's stories be told. The unresolved threads at v1.6's close are the Aureate Pavilion's remaining leadership, the truth of Jiang Yan's history, and where the Water Lady actually is now.
