Street-smart Kaifeng fixer who throws roosters at guards to create a distraction so the protagonist can sneak into Revelry Hall. A key Chapter 2 ally.

Big Zhao is a Kaifeng street fixer - a large, loud man who operates as the protagonist's first real Chapter 2 ally and a fixture of the city's grey-market underworld. He is introduced in the New Guest in Kaifeng arc with one of the chapter's most memorable image-gags: throwing roosters at the city guards in the middle of a market, triggering a riot of freed livestock, and using the chaos as cover to pull the protagonist into the back streets.After the rescue he becomes the practical fixer of the Heroes Assembly arc: the protagonist needs an Assembly Ticket to enter Revelry Hall and meet the Ember of East, and Big Zhao is the man who makes that ticket happen. The Revelry Hall infiltration runs through him and his associate Little Fu, including the boat-side sneak-in route into the Assembly proper.He remains a present, dependable Kaifeng presence through Chapter 2 - the kind of ally a wuxia story uses sparingly but reliably: he knows the bad parts of town, he owes the right people, and he doesn't ask why the protagonist needs whatever they need.

Large frame - the 'Big' in Big Zhao is not ironic. Public guides describe him in the rooster scene as physically substantial enough to clear a crowd by sheer presence. He dresses in plain street clothes, no sect colours, no obvious weapon - the look of a man whose value to a fight is positioning rather than swordplay.

Personality

Streetwise, gregarious, willing to do absurd things if absurdity is the path of least resistance. Throwing chickens at imperial guards is not a tactic most fixers would lead with, and the joke of the introduction is that for Big Zhao it is genuinely his best plan. Underneath the comedic surface he is loyal, well-connected, and trustworthy in a transactional way - once he is on the protagonist's side, he stays there.

Big Zhao's arc through Chapter 2 is steady-state: he is the chapter's reliable Kaifeng anchor, the man the protagonist returns to between major story beats. He does not pivot, betray, or escalate - that is his function. He represents the bottom-up view of Kaifeng's politics that the Ember of East does not provide.By the end of v1.6 he is unchanged in role but established as a fixed Chapter 2 ally.
