During the massacre at Blissful Retreat, an arrow flew straight toward Ruby. The main story never gives you a clear answer about what happened next. But if you return to Heaven's Pier and explore carefully, you will find the truth, and it will break your heart in exactly the way this game knows how.
At Heaven's Pier, a quest called Her Legacy reveals a treasure map marking the location of a great hero's treasure. The map belongs to someone who claims that after wandering the jianghu, she acquired a divine artifact so powerful it would bring disaster in the wrong hands. Whoever finds the map must pass trials to prove their worth.
After clearing the challenges, the final destination turns out to be Uncle Jiang's house. There you discover Ruby's letter and a birthday gift she prepared for you in advance: a red thread. In Chinese tradition, the red thread binds people together across time and distance. Ruby's own name, Chongen in Chinese, literally means red thread.
Drifting into a daze, you see Ruby waiting inside the house. She tells you to wear the thread so the two of you will always be connected, no matter where the jianghu takes you. As long as you carry it, you are still twin wanderers.
Ruby's biography, unlockable by speaking to specific NPCs at Heaven's Pier, contains three stories that illuminate her character and your bond. In one, Ruby climbed a tall tree chasing a kite she had broken during play. She made it to the top but could not get down. Night fell. The wind turned cold. She sat shivering, counting every lantern she could see, 268 of them, telling herself she was not scared. Then a single light appeared in the distance, a lantern moving closer, and she heard the voice she trusted most. It was you.
In another story, Ruby's father discovered she was mumbling ancient sages' names in her sleep and spent their savings bribing a teacher to give her special education. The truth was simpler and sadder: she had been copying punishment texts for her runaway cousin (you) and muttered the words from exhaustion.
The third story reveals what changed Ruby forever. Three years before Chapter 1, on the night Aunt Han left home, Ruby climbed Moonveil Mountain alone and encountered someone mysterious at the summit. In that moment, she glimpsed the real jianghu and decided she would enter it, not alone, but as a twin hero with her beloved elder cousin.
Ruby's legacy lives on mechanically as well. You can purchase her help before difficult fights, and she grants a resurrection buff that brings you back to life once. Two lives, just as she promised. The twin wanderers of the jianghu carry on together, connected by a thread that neither death nor distance can sever.
